Run DMC is regarded as one of the pioneers of the hip hop movement. Founded by Joseph ‘Rev Run’ Simmons, Darryl ‘DMC’ McDaniels and Jason ‘Jam-Master Jay’ Mizell in New York City in the 80s, the group has contributed a lot in taking the genre into the mainstream and helped it reach wider audiences by crossing over genres (they collaborated with Aerosmith in their version of ‘Walk This Way’) and performing in high-profile events such Live Aid in 1985.
But aside from their music, another thing that cemented the group’s reputation is its classic look. If there were such a thing as a definitive old school hip hop get-up, then theirs would be on top of the list.
So how does the group’s classic get up look like? Tight leather jeans and jackets, a fedora hat, a pair of white Adidas sneakers without laces, Cazal glasses and the oversize gold dookie rope chain necklaces are the things that would define the classic Run DMC look.
And man, did they preach about it. The group has recorded a song called ‘My Adidas’ in praise of their favorite brand of sneakers. Also their song ‘Raising Hell’ puts into words their fashion sense. “C’mon basic black, shell toe Adidas, black hat, black shirt and jeans, fat gold rope chain and black leather jacket.” Nobody can say it – and wear it – better than them.
Their preaching paid off and has influenced a host of fans that is becoming a very popular trend. Achieve retro fashion with today’s trend at Filthy Dripped! If you see a rapper with blings so large you could buy an entire country with it, then they owe it to the rap group that started that trend – Run DMC.

New FUCT just came in this week!

FUCT™ is the brainchild of artist/graffiti writer Erik Brunetti (aka DEN ONE).
Created in 1991, out of Brunetti’s Venice Beach bedroom, FUCT™ has, since it’s humble beginnings, single-handedly laid the ground- work for an entire generation of street-wear labels and designers.
Responsible for introducing to the world the “Planet of The Apes” printed t-shirts back in 1993, to using Viet-Nam war & German WWII inspired graphics, to the recent hand-drawn rock’n’roll iconography pieces, FUCT™ may well be considered the predecessor of subversive street-wear.
Drawing it’s roots in early skate-boarding and graffiti culture as well as punk-rock music, FUCT™ has maintained a steady cult following over the years.
Coveted by youth and Gen-X’ers, the rebellious nature of the brand has also attracted unconventional and outlaw artists and musicians such as Keith Richards, Julian Schnabel, Larry Clark and members of thrash metal band Slayer.
With a reputation for causing trouble through provocative graphics and bold add campaigns, FUCT™ has never crossed the thin line into self-parodic overkill. Authenticity behind every idea and design has proven to be the driving force and the secret to it’s ever-growing commercial success.
15 years later, FUCT™ has managed to remain synonym of anti-consumerism and progressive thinking by leading the path of decadent and counter-culture aesthetics.

A really popular brand we carry at Filthy Dripped, Artful Dodger, has a new owner! Jay-Z!
Jay-Z and the Iconix Brand Group called Scion LLC have joined together to purchase the Artful Dodger clothing line for $15 million.
The line specializes high-end denim, t-shirts and sweaters, and has seen increased popularity over the past two years. Artful Dodger founder and CEO Scott Langton will become part of the Signature Apparel Group (with which Scion will enter into a multi-year licensing deal for the brand) and act as creative director and head designer.
“I consider myself very fortunate to have found a partner in Scion and am really excited about the future of Artful Dodger,” said Langton. “I am looking forward to working with Signature Apparel, who as a company, has both the production infrastructure and financial capacity to make Artful Dodger the brand I always envisioned it to be.”
Whether or not Jay-Z will have any creative input on this project is unclear as of now. “Artful Dodger is an incredible brand with a lot of room for growth and Scott Langton is a visionary designer,” Said Jay in a statement. “They represent what’s next and new in fashion and we are glad to have both the brand and Scott as a part of our family. Artful Dodger represents the first of many acquisitions that will begin to shape our joint venture with Iconix.”
